About this Section

Using classical forms and realistic depictions of people, certain artistic approaches illuminate truths about the human condition. With imagery grounded in neighborhoods, our physical bodies or singular faces, the work conjures familiarity, a perceived reality, a connection of the individual to the whole. Subtle threads of activism sometimes occur by way of unexpected placement, using the same elements of surprise that graffiti has long employed. The works presented here are often in dialogue with communities, aiming to uplift and give back.
